Elon

Elon the Zebulunite was the tenth judge of Israel who served for ten years, as mentioned in the Book of Judges. Elon’s name means “oak tree” or “strong” in Hebrew. He was born to the tribe of Zebulun, but information about his parents is not available. His time as judge was roughly around 1090 BC.

Early Life of Elon

Little is known about Elon’s early life, as the Bible provides limited information about him prior to his role as a judge.

Biblical Timeline

Judgeship of Elon

Elon became a judge of Israel after the death of Ibzan, another judge mentioned in the Book of Judges. During his tenure, Elon led Israel for ten years (Judges 12:11).

Death of Elon

After serving as a judge for a decade, Elon passed away and was buried in Aijalon, within the territory of Zebulun (Judges 12:12). Following Elon’s death, Abdon became the next judge of Israel (Judges 12:13).

Additional Notes

Elon the Zebulunite should not be confused with Elon the Hittite, who is mentioned in the Book of Genesis (Genesis 26:34-35) as the father of Basemath, one of Esau’s wives.
